Trek claims the carbon fibre Slash tips the scales at just 2,450g. Since it’s introduction in 2017, there have been significant changes in geometry and the Slash had some catching up to do. For the rear end, Trek continue to rely on the established 148 mm Boost standard that they introduced. This long-travel 29er enduro bike is built to be fast, smooth, and fun in the wildest terrain. The Slash 9.7 is the only model in the lineup equipped with FOX suspension. As a result, the tubeless tire would no longer stay inflated. This means the shaft doesn’t displace any extra oil as it enters the damper. $2,199.99.
This bike requires at least a 200 mm rotor and is even approved for up to 220 mm versions – excellent!
Luckily, that’s exactly what Christoph did.
The bottom bracket was lowered by a further 6 mm, despite having more travel, bringing the BB drop to 29 mm.
If you’re looking for a long-travel 29er that’s more than a one-trick race pony, the Slash will oblige.
To complement the longer reach numbers, Trek is speccing very short 35mm stems across all sizes, along with (now almost ubiquitous) short offset forks. This additional range of motion was enough to navigate tight, low-speed switchbacks without impeding steering. “We were hyperfocused on controlling rider input,” said Jose Gonzalez, Trek’s suspension director. This has two advantages: first, it prevents the brake levers hitting the top tube or the cables pulling out if the bars spin in a crash.
In its place is a RockShox Super Deluxe ThruShaft. But reach grows significantly across all sizes.

Looks like a … Trek! 2021 Trek Slash is a completely different beast. Trek says adding the window to the aluminum frame, a first, was actually much more difficult than doing so for the carbon fibre frame. Where the Slash has to deliver is on the descents and once you drop the saddle, you’ll immediately feel that you’re dealing with a completely different beast. The smallest size S gets a 125 mm model. To increase the clearance around the chainring, they choose to fit the latest SRAM or Shimano cranks with a 55 mm chain line.
While Trek certainly wasn’t the first to think of turning the down tube into a handy storage area, it’s brought the idea (which we’re big fans of) to more people.
